OUR DIY JOURNEY & STORY

We were handed the keys to our new home on the 15th of September. It was an emotional goodbye for Lyn, the previous owner whose beloved mother owned and passed away in it. When we met with her, she began to cry a little, and we could feel how much this place meant to her. Warwick (my husband) gave her a big hug and we both said we’d look after the home and breathe some life back into the old gal 💫

Lyn said the house was tired, and mentioned she had just planted an olive tree in the front garden. I looked at y husband @warwick_paul and my heart filled with joy. I was blown away because a couple of months before we met Lyn, I had started to put together a mood board, inspiration and some plans for our new home. I intuitively felt and saw an olive tree in my mind. It had a peaceful zen feel, and when I researched the symbolism of an olive tree, it read prosperity, love, peace, fertility and abundance! Everything we were hoping this new home would represent.

I could not believe what Lyn had just said. It’s incredible how connected we all are, and how this all came together, in a way that felt guided by some higher force. We had a photo with Lyn and said goodbye. We were left feeling so unbelievably grateful and peaceful that day ✨

This house was a love letter to the simplicity of Japanese interior design mixed with the earthy rustic feel of a Mediterranean home. That slowly became our sanctuary. A calming space of neutral tones and pops of soft colours.

MOODBOARD & COLOUR SHCEME

This build was centred around the olive tree and a rustic Mediterranean feel. We decided to reuse as much of the original houses parquet flooring which brought in a red warm tone. The cretestone walls where originally going to all be painted white but we loved the earthy and calming feel they brought to the space. Adding to the Mediterranean vibe we were going for. The soft neutral hues and colour pallet allowed me to pull from Autumn colours, and the brass finishings topped it all off.
